Today is Australia Day and as I look around at what is happening in our wild and beautiful country I see people struggling to get back on their feet after years of drought and now flooding rain. I see people still rebuilding two years after the Black Saturday fires. I see families who have lost some of their most treasured posessions and keepsakes.
There is the story of the woman who was only able to save 5 photos of her children’s youth. She lost so much but not as much as others who were left with nothing – no keepsakes and souvenirs of their lives before the disaster. There is the story of the photo album found floating downriver, full of the history of a family that no one knows. Imagine what that album would mean to the family now, if they could find it?
“The most frustrating thing in the world is losing the things that mean the most to you among a sea of unimportant stuff that was acquired just because you could.” says Jonno Seidler in an article in the Age. Can you imagine how hard it must be to sift through a lifetime’s collection it ‘stuff’ in your house to find the things that you really value? Now picture yourself doing it in 5 ragged minutes as you race to evacuate. How would you ever remember where you put that letter? What did you do with your grandmother’s recipe book, full of recipes written lovingly in her old-fashioned, spidery handwriting?
Those of us who are safe and comfortable in our homes need to pay attention to what the less fortunate are saying. It’s a lesson that we all need to learn. We DO cram our homes with ‘stuff’ but only some of it really means anything to us. It’s time to think about what is really important to you and how you will keep it safe. We are blessed with the opportunity to prepare. We have the gift of time.
Australia is an amazing country filled with people who know how to pull together when the chips are down. I’m proud to be one of them. I’m proud to be someone who can help preserve your special memories with my work. The events of the last few years have shown me how important that can be.
On this Australia Day, celebrate with your families and make sure that you know what is really important to you.
We know that many special gifts were given and received this Christmas. Thank you for allowing us to help create some fabulous memories.
I’m thrilled to bits with the etched charm you made up for me with my 3 babies on it. I love it, and now I know how well the process works, I’ll be back!
What has also been fascinating is seeing other people’s reactions to it. At Christmas it was passed right the way around the table and everyone was amazed.

Thanks so much. I received the keychain today. It’s beautiful. I found out about your company from a work colleague who was wearing an engraved necklace pendant. I will recommend your company to my friends. It’s a nice gift for people who already have everything or are hard to buy for like my husband.
I am very happy with the pendant & i know the recipient will be over the moon come xmas day, so thankyou
I didn’t want to comment on your photos in case my sister trawls my FB page for comments and then goes looking. I have tears in my eyes. Wow just beautiful thank you.
Dear Carolyn, thank you so much for the beautiful pendant. I am so pleased with it and my husband will be thrilled with his Christmas pressie. Thank you for your excellent customer service, such prompt delivery and a beautiful quality product.
Excellent service, very fast and perfect results. Very happy.
Just wanted to let you know that my order arrived safely and I am delighted with it. Thank you so much.
Have you been thinking about our pendants and other lovely products? The ordering process is quite easy and we will help you through it. Here are a few things that you need to know.
Make sure you leave enough time for your Etched in Memoriesâ pendant to be shipped to you; a standard pendant will be shipped within a week. 9ct gold and sterling silver pendants are handmade to order by a master jeweller and take a little longer to ship. I think that you should leave 14 clear days to be absolutely sure that your pendant will arrive in time. It’s far better for it to arrive too early than too late.
The photo pendants come in a range of shapes and sizes and can be engraved on both sides with photos, logos, text and more. You will need to let me know the style you prefer as you order. Don’t think that you are limited to one face per pendant. More than one photograph can be merged on the single pendant and I can also remove background elements so that you are not distracted from the face.
Shipping costs are included in your pendant price. Etched in Memoriesâ also accept international orders, but remember to leave plenty of time for delivery! Full payment is required at the time of placing your order, using Paypal, a direct bank deposit, or a cheque mailed in the post.
Make sure that you upload your photograph at the time of making your order. If you forget you can email it direct to Etched in Memoriesâ, in either .jpg or .bmp format. You need to attach your original digital photograph file. If you don’t have a digital copy of your photograph you can scan a photo. Make sure you set your scan at a minimum of 200dpi. You can also send a hard copy of your photograph to Etched in Memoriesâ (up to A4 in size) and I can work from that. It will then be returned to you with your pendant order.
If you have a question about the order process ( or about any of the products) feel free to email me or even leave a comment here after my post.
